Why do I have to change my password every 90 days?

Within the Government of the Northwest Territories, we are trying to follow “best practices” in terms of safety of information. As human resource information is considered sensitive, we focus on protecting that data. Safety features include:

  • length of password
  • changing passwords regularly
  • limiting the number of unsuccessful logon attempts
  • limiting the time of inactivity

Similar protections are in place within the Technology Services Centre for your network and mail access.

How do I clear my browser's cache?

If you clear your browser’s cache and temporary internet files regularly it helps the computer or device run optimally and can assist with website loading slowly or formatting issues on a web page.

I've submitted my resignation, effective two weeks from today. Now I'm being asked to provide a forwarding address. Why does HR need this information?

There are several reasons why HR will need an updated address for you.

  • After your termination, once your clearance from the GNWT has been completed, we will forward your final pay to you.
  • In some cases, you may be entitled to receive a refund of pension contributions, either by cheque or a rollover to an RRSP. We need to be able to inform you of your options.
  • Finally, you'll want to receive your T-4 statement on time so you can file your income tax.

Your mail will be sent to the last address we have on file for you. If you are no longer at that address and have not provided forwarding instructions, the mail will be returned to HR and filed. Even if you don't have a permanent new address your mail can be forwarded to, it's important to provide an address. This could be the address of a friend of family member you can rely on to forward your mail to you until you have settled.

How do I stop my PeopleSoft notifications from going to my junk mail?

You can add Do-Not-Reply@gov.nt.ca to your Safe Sender's list in Outlook, which will ensure these emails are directed towards your inbox.

1.On the Home tab, in the Delete group, click Junk, and then click Junk E-mail Options.

2.On the Safe Senders tab, click 'Add', and enter the email in (ensure hyphens are included).

Click OK to save your changes.

I’ve accepted another job in the GNWT / I’ve accepted a job outside the GNWT / I’m planning to retire. I understand I’m supposed to use a form called the Resignation/Transfer and Acceptance Form. Where do I find it?

  • This will open a PDF document which will display a 2 sided form.
  • Print this document out and fill in the appropriate areas
  • Forward to your supervisor/director.

Why is my Job Title wrong on my pay advice and my timesheet?

The job title that you currently view in PeopleSoft is actually your National Occupancy Code. Your job is classified within the group of employees outlined on your pay advice and timesheet. As GNWT casual employees do not have specific Job Titles, we revert to this code to ensure all employees have a general title in their PeopleSoft profile.

Where can I find the time entry/approval deadline calendar?

It can be found in Biweekly Payroll.

What do I do if I have forgotten my password for PeopleSoft Self Serve?

From the main HRIS/SAM login.

  • If you have set-up your forgotten password help, below the User ID box, where you would enter your password, is a link
    titled “Forgot your password?” Click this link.
  • When the next window opens type in your User ID (firstname.lastname) and click the
    CONTINUE button.
  • The system will provide you with an interim password.
  • Use the system generated password to sign in to PeopleSoft.
  • Once signed in, you will be notified that your password has expired. Select the link 'Click here to change your password'. Your new password must include at least 12 characters with two numbers and at least one capital letter.

How many times can I try to enter my password before it locks me out?

After five unsuccessful consecutive attempts, the system will lock you out for “safety of information” reasons. You can set-up your forgotten password help to assist in resetting your password; if you are locked out, you must go through the HR Helpdesk to reset your password.

How can I update my personal information (address, phone number, emergency contacts, etc)?

If you are an active employee, you can update your Personal Information. If you are no longer employed with the GNWT, this information is available to review, but not update.

To update changes to your personal information in Self- Service, go to Self-Service > Personal Information > Personal Information Summary

  • Select the 'Change' button for the information you would like to update.
  • Select the 'Edit' icon and update the information.
  • Click the Save button.

Why doesn't the Forgotten Password Link question match the one I selected?

The Forgotten Password Link defaults to a random security question when a user enters an invalid User ID (employee ID, firstname_lastname, Computer User name, etc.). This is a security feature as thesystem cannot identify who the valid User is. Your user name should be firstname.lastname .
