The Yarn – Bernat Velvet Yarn
I was looking for my next crochet project and wanted to make a blanket with Bernat Velvet Yarn. I love the softest of the yarn it is even softer than Bernat Blanket Yarn.
Bernat Velvet is a soft, luxuriously thick yarn that is perfect for winter projects. This yarn is made of acrylic and nylon, which makes it soft and warm.
It comes in a variety of colors, so you can find the perfect one for your project. Bernat Velvet is great for hats, scarves, mittens, and more!
The Bernat Velvet Yarn is a bulky weight 5 yarn. It is a little difficult to use.
If you do not keep your tension tight and even, it will pull out or what is called worming.
I would suggest you practice a swatch of half double crochets until you have a feel for the yarn.
From the colors available, I chose to use blue and gray Bernat Velvet Yarn colors. I love the soft colors available, but blue is one of my favorite colors and goes with my décor.
I added the gray because I need another color and gray goes great with blue.

- fpdc– front post double crochet
- bpdc– back post double crochet

Tips forVelvet Yarn
You will want to make the yarn into balls. The first skein of yarn was in 4 parts and got all tangled. It took forever to untangle it all.
Also, the yarn is tied together with tiny knots so if the skein has come apart you can tie a tight tiny knot.
Practice first using a tight tension. When you change colors tie the color you are ending in a knot. The yarn tends to unravel itself.
Gauge: 5 in x 5 in = 10 rows of fpdc & bpdc x 14 stitches (12.7 cm)
