Materials Needed

  • Crochet Hook Size: This project will use a I-9 (5.5 mm) crochet hook.
  • Yarn: For this project, choose a worsted weight yarn. I recommend using cotton yarn.
  • Tapestry needle: You will need this to weave in your ends.
  • Scissors: Use scissors to fasten off your yarn.
  • Stitch marker: I always use these when designing my patterns. They help me keep track of where to make increases.

Best Yarn for Grocery Bags

Cotton yarn is my favorite choice for grocery bags because it is strong and durable. It is also breathable, which is important for fresh fruits and veggies. If you want a natural look, jute yarn is also a good option. It is sturdy and has a rustic feel. But I must warn you, it can be a bit rough on your hands while you crochet. Trust me, I learned this lesson the hard way.

What is the best crochet stitch for a market bag?

The treble crochet stitch is the best stitch for a farmer’s market bag. This stitch is great because it’s the tallest basic crochet stitch. When you use tall stitches and chain spaces together, you get the mesh bag look.

What is a French market bag?
