Soap Dispensers can use liquid dish soap, liquid hand soap, alcohol-based hand-sanitizer, and even typical hand lotions. Foaming soap will pump from the soap dispenser but it will not foam. Foaming soap dispensers have a chamber that mixes air into the soap.

Select your soap You can't just add normal soap into a foaming dispenser as it is generally too thick. So you will have to water it down a little. Measure out the soap & water in equal parts. Typically you will need to add 1 part soap to 4 parts water to get a good mix suitable for a foaming dispenser.

The Soap Dispenser Does not Dispense Soap

Foaming hand soap is a diluted version of liquid hand soap that must go through a special foaming pump that adds air into the mix to create an already-sudsy hand soap “lather” when it's dispensed onto your hands. There's not actually anything special about foaming hand soap except that it's watered down.

Liquid hand soap is still effective after a splash of water—phew—with one caveat. “As long as there's surfactant, you will be able to remove [germs], although you may need more as dilution increases,” explains Tetro. In other words, the surfactant, aka the soap, will work as long as there's enough of it in the mix.
