You can also prep components ahead and store in the fridge for up to 5 days, making it even easier! Sheet pan chicken fajitas with tender and juicy chicken, bell peppers, and onions tossed in a delicious homemade fajita seasoning. Ideal for meal prep or for a simple weeknight dinner.
A sheet pan takes the concept of a one-pot meal and flips it onto a pan. It saves time, makes clean-up easier, and doesn't require expensive equipment or fancy ingredients. Just start with your protein of choice, then add vegetables, fat and flavorings, and roast at high heat until everything is golden brown.
bake directly in your individual meal prep containers for a cozy meal throughout the week. I like doing this with baked pastas mini lasagnas or casseroles like this.
On your meal prep day, focus first on foods that take the longest to cook: proteins like chicken and fish; whole grains like brown rice, quinoa, and farro; dried beans and legumes; and, roasted vegetables.
However, it's important to meal prep safely and store the food in a proper way. When it comes to batch food storage, you have a few options. You can store meal prep food in the fridge for up to four days. Or, you can store prepped food in the freezer for a longer period of time.
Foil is the right choice when you're roasting at temperatures of 425°F (220°C) or higher. Unless it's labelled non-stick, foil needs greasing, and — surprise! — it makes no difference if the shiny side is up or down. Cover the baking sheet completely, including the sides and corners, to catch any mess.
Temperatures range from 375-400°F for sheet pan meals. Depending on the vegetables and protein you've chosen, it may take anywhere from 35-45 minutes to cook thoroughly. Remember if you've chosen something you know will overcook in that period, you want to add it in later on in the cooking time.
The right baking sheet to use for sheet pan dinners is called a half-sheet pan. It's made of heavy-gauge metal, measures 18 by 13 inches, and has a 1-inch rim all the way around. It's sturdy enough to take high oven heat — and sometimes broiler heat if your recipe calls for it.
We recommend foil over parchment paper for sheet pan cooking. As it conducts heat, foil can help accelerate the cooking process and help browning. Parchment is better for delicate foods you don't want to brown, like cookies.
Aluminum foil and parchment paper are your friends.
Line the pan with either foil or parchment before cooking to help make clean-up easy! Remember: If you're broiling, do not use parchment paper, which can catch fire. Go with the foil, and mist it with cooking spray to prevent food from sticking.
These meal prep storage containers are stackable, which makes it easy to save space in cabinets when they are not in use, and they're microwave and top-rack dishwasher safe, so food can be reheated inside and cleanup is a snap.
Lean ham, turkey, or chicken can be low in fat, high in protein, and a flavorful way to enhance any meal or snack. Add to a salad kit, make a hearty sandwich or wrap, or simply pair with some cheese, crackers, and fruit for an easy meal kit. Most options last for about five days in the fridge.
Make a meal plan of about four days of safe storage in the fridge and about four months of safe storage in the freezer. Watch for changes (smell, color, texture, and mold) to your meal prep food as a sign that it's gone bad. If you're unsure if food has spoiled: when in doubt, throw it out.
One important note though: as long as you cook meals properly, food will be perfectly safe to eat within seven days. However, by day five, it might not be as tasty. If there's one number to remember from this cheat sheet, it's four. Most meals are good (safe AND tasty) in the fridge for up to four days.
Prepping food the night before can be a helpful way to have a healthy meal ready even when your schedule is full during the day. In just three steps or less, recipes like our Teriyaki Tofu Rice Bowl and Loaded Chicken Quinoa Salad will help you stay fueled and feeling your best even when your calendar is full.
Here's why: Saves Time: By doing all the chopping, dicing, and measuring beforehand, you can significantly cut down your overall preparation time. Instead of dawdling around the kitchen, trying to find ingredients and chop them up at the last minute, you'll have everything ready.
